Thanks to everyone who helped with the demo at Plaistow Old Home Days this past weekend, especially our Little Ninjas, Sarah and Jenna, and our TSD Youth Cameron. Everyone did a great job. If you would like to see the demonstration you can see part one here and part two here, at our student Mike’s YouTube page. Thanks Mike for putting this up for us.
Vacation?
Our school was closed this week for the fourth of July holiday but we were hard at work. There’s new paint, new furniture, a new inventory system, a new automated attendance system, a new student contact system, a new LIVE seminar, a new Kihon Class, new student rank sticks, a new Black Belt Club display, a new Master’s Club display, and a few other surprises.
I want to thank Darryl and Theresa for all their work and both Bob and Bobby for stopping by to help. Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend and we’ll see you Monday for training. This is the start of our push to finish of our first year as Shinobi Martial Arts with a bang.

The first Kihon program will begin on Wednesday, July 22nd!
The program consists of six classes over six weeks, followed by two three hour seminars. The seminars will be held three and six months after completion of the six week course. After completing the program (and plenty of practice on their own!) students can test for a Kihon Certificate from Mr. Hayes in that particular weapon (cost is $45).
The first weapon Kihon will be Sword!
The program will cover:
KUKISHINDEN RYU KENJUTSU KIHON
Ten Fighting Postures
Fundamental Cutting Drills
Formal Salutes
Mental Focus
The six week classes will be held on Wednesday evenings 7:30-8:15 and Thursday afternoons 12:15 to 1:00. The first Seminar will be held in November and the second will be in February 2010.
The cost of the six week course is $99. The seminars are $60 each. But if you pay for the complete program in advance it will only be $199.
The full program is open to all To-Shin Do students , all To-Shin Do Youth students, and Kenpo students 13 and up.
Only 20 spots are available (due to space needed) for the six week course so see a Sensei soon to sign up!
Closed Next Week
Shinobi Martial Arts will be closed from June 29th through July 4th. We will reopen Monday July 6th. Enjoy your holiday!!!
June Graduation Ceremony
This month’s Graduation Ceremony will be on Saturday June 27th starting at 11:30pm. We’re starting early so we can make it to our demonstration at 1 pm for Plaistow Old Home Days. You are all welcome to come demo with us and family and friends are welcome to come and cheer you on at both events.
June Raffle Winner!
Congratulations to Dave Buswell-Wible for winning the June School Spirit Drawing. Dave chose from the prize options to go to New England Warrior Camp for free!
The next drawing will be in December and all you have to do to enter is have friends try out Shinobi Martial Arts. If they try it out, we’ll enter your name once. If they sign up, we’ll enter your name three more times!
Good luck everyone!
Little Ninjas are reviewing and testing. It’s stripe week!
Level One To-Shin Do Youth and Adults are looking ahead to wind movements and working with the hanbo (three foot staff).
Level Two To-Shin Do will be working on tanto knife and hanbo cane defenses.
Black Belt Club is working on meditation techniques.
Master’s Club will be continuing with Osoto Gake and Ran Sho from the Nidan (2nd degree black belt) material.
Ninjas in the Woods
We had a great time last weekend at the Kihon Seminar. We used shuriken (throwing stars) for grappling, kusari fundo (rope and chain weapons) to take control of an opponent and then we went off into the woods to pratice katana (sword) and bo (six-foot staff) techniques along with ninja stealth movement. We’ll be setting up a Kihon Program in one of these weapons on Wednesday nights from 7:30 to 8:15 starting in July.
Let us know which you would like to be part of. If you were at the seminar tell us what was your favorite part and what you learned.
